Twitter is great, and while not directly related to poker, it kind of is. Last night I played my first “real” poker tournament. @chrishiter hosted a free roll for his railbirds. I think that’s the correct term. Anyway it was hosted on Carbonpoker.com 34 people registered. I finished 12th. I don’t know how but I did. I am not a great player, but I did ok. A lot of these guys play poker every day. Thanks again Chris. (Btw we are still waiting on your scouting report)
So, Ive been following some poker players on Twitter. I blame @street3 for this,most of them know him and follow me despite him being my friend. My experience with poker has been, playing at lunch in HS and I sucked then. My older brother, on the other hand used to win quite a bit. I haven’t played much over the years, aside from some Play money kind of games on yahoo or pogo or whatever. I do alright, but I am by no means a good poker player.
Lately, Ive been getting free chips for Zynga Poker on Facebook. It’s populated by a mix of skill levels. So far,t he people I have played against all SUCK. You have people that check, raise check raise all before the flop. How can you do this without any clue what the hell cards are going to be there? I’ve even seen people go all in right before the flop and at the flop. Most of the time I have a weak hand, and not enough chips to cover, so I have to fold,and so do others at the table. So, these donks are winning by default.
Granted most of what I know of Texas Hold-em I learned from watching the show, I think A&E did it. All the “celebrities” that got a few lessons, money and then played for some charity of their choice. Like most ideas on tv, it was good for the first season (take a hint Apprentice producers) then it got lame and more stupid.
Tonight, Im playing in a freeroll tournament hosted by my buddy and 3rd favorite lawyer @chrishiter. I’m predicitng I will last all of 3 hands… We’ll see. For more info check out CarbonPoker or Twitter Poker Tour(it’s run by a great guy and they are currently offering rake backs).
So much to learn. Robots, gadgets, public waves and more. I’m still adding people, reading about gadgets etc. Ive seen good and bad things about short codes for wp and wavr. Still not sure which to go with. It’s not a big deal to install a plugin, so I may try both and see which works better. As more people use wave I can start turning waves into blog posts as well. That will open up a new world of interaction and csm.

This post is about waves, not that sad, arena wave, or ocean waves, or even waving to a friend. No, my children, this is about the phenomena known as Google Wave. They’ve started rolling it out, albeit in limited,invite only form. If you’re lucky enough to have some uber cool friends that invited you, great, if not sorry about your luck I’m sure yours is lost in the mail.
It seems like a great thing, with a ton of potential. There are a million videos and websites that extol it’s virtues,shortcomings and how it’s the next big thing. I will not go into that here. My biggest issue thus far is not having anyone to wave to, um at ummm with? I guess it would be wave with. I’m sure greater minds know the correct terminology. Where was I? Right, no one to interact with. I’m certain there are eleventy million hundreds already using it. I have 3 contacts. I know! I am just that cool. No really, ask anyone like my mom, my wife or even certain people on twitter(no not them, those other people).
So, with this in mind, I propose to make a list of users, you can post a reply here with your GW contact info, or if we follow one another on twitter, DM me there and I’ll add you. It only gets better when people use it, right? So, get those cards and letters in err comments, and I’ll get the list up in a follow-up blog.
On the talent front, our own @chrishiter is hard at work(See what I did there?) scouting what he calls the local talent pool. Currently he has two girls in various positions trying out for various roles. He promises an update is cum er coming soon. I’m not holding my breath.
We are still looking for screen writers to work for free work for the honor of being a part of something so wonderful and epic.
I’m trying to remember. But pushing 42 the memory is not what it used to/should be. I can’t think of anytime I’ve had snow before Halloween,never! Maybe it’s because we live in this hellhole the mountains of NE PA. But here it is, the 16th of October and we have white,fluffy, effing snow. This isn’t normal is it? I almost said natural, but hell, it is nature after all, right? That’s what I thought.
I blame Bush, no wait, that’s been done. Maybe, it’s because for the first time, after 3 yrs of being here, we finally hung Halloween Decorations? That may have done it. First yr of decorating, 1st yr of snow. Too close for coincidence? wtf knows.Speaking of which, until recently the church next door had a pastor I really liked, he was a neighbor and friend first, pastor second. So, I felt kind of funny hanging up the devils stuff err Halloween decorations. Now we have a new guy, who is a pastor first and not really overtly friendly. Sure, he waves if I catch him outside, but it doesn’t go beyond that.
Here’s why. Within a few hours of posting yesterday, Id gotten 2x my normal blog traffic. Now to some of anything under 100 hits isn’t anything at all. To me, hitting 76 on a single post is magical. I made a short blog post about my friend Cheryl needing help to attend a business summit in Dayton. I can’t say that it was all us, but, that is what I am going with. So thank you, all who clicked th paypal donate link. You are all awesome and I’d like to send each of you an oven fresh choc. chip cookie. Barring that, my heartfelt thanks will have to do. Esp 1 pokerplasm dude. Within minutes of posting, he replied and asked how much Cheryl needed. How awesome is that? Thank you sir.
