Wake up people. Jon Voight speaks out against the President.

Jon Voight may be my new fav actor. He doesn’t seem to be the typical liberal Hollywood Weenie. I got this from http://www.thehopeforamerica.com/play.php?id=3622

I’m sure, on the surface less nukes in the world sounds like a good thing. But, at what cost? How safe will we be when we have no defenses. For years the Government has been shrinking our Military forces, closing bases, decommissioning surface and submarine assets, cutting Army, Marine and Air Force ranks. What are they thinking? In theory peace through non-aggression sounds wonderful like warm kittens. In the real world it doesn’t work. Can you show me any instance where, when a foe lays down in a submissive prostrate manner, the aggressor ever said, “Oh you gave up, you can live in peace now”? I don’t think so. Weakening Israel does nothing for them and everything for the people that would have it obliterated from the face of the Earth. Sorry, I went off on a tear there. It just really pisses me off to see President Obama lauded as this great bringer of hope and change, when he is doing it at the cost of our country.
Enough is enough. Maybe the Tea Party system is not the best solution, but it beats the hell out of whining and hand wringing with no action. We need to stand up to Washington and demand they do the job they were hired for, and also they carry out the will of the people.

Big defense has the same issues as any big government program – graft, waste, big budgets. Unless we see China as an immediate threat, Reagan bought us a spend-down in defense with his spend-up on defense, which crushed the Soviet Union’s economic “system.” Today, we have a number of economic issues, and spending up on defense seems like just more big government, spend-and-burn efforts; if you think programs like social security and welfare are a problem, you should definitely be looking to cut defense spending IMHO.

We need a smaller, agile strike capability more than a large standing army. We need to learn how to fight “small wars” as the conflicts at the turn of the century were called.

And for nukes, who’s going to throw one? We only need a couple times’ Earth’s destruction to make it pretty prohibitive to those that care about deterrence, and for the rest, well, keeping nukes only gives them opportunities for theft.

President Obama is President – he has brought hope (and not just on posters:-) and some change, although certainly not as much as many would have liked. Having been unemployed thanks to Bush’s economic errors (Greenspan, on his watch, “trusted” banks to police themselves – makes you think of wolves and hen houses, doesn’t it?), I’m glad something is being done. And its more than the Tea Partiers would do – they think the unemployed should go get a job – there aren’t any, and their plans to make jobs don’t either, they just let the situation play out slowly and painfully. We have more money concentrated in fewer hands in the US since the start of the Great Depression – that will continue to freeze our economy, reducing consumption and spending with small and mid-range business.

One rant deserves another :-) – thanks for the post! – Bob
